Despite being one of the most pressing concerns for young people today, the numbers have mysteriously vanished, leaving policymakers and experts in the dark.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A lack of reliable data<\/strong> is at the heart of the issue. Many countries no longer track youth unemployment rates, making it difficult to understand the scope of the problem or measure the effectiveness of solutions.<\/li>\n<li>The rise of gig economy and non-traditional work arrangements has made it challenging to define what constitutes employment and how to count it.<\/li>\n<li>Few governments have a dedicated ministry for youth affairs, making it harder to prioritize this issue and allocate resources accordingly.<\/li>\n<li>Many organizations are reluctant to release data that highlights the severity of the problem, fearing it would undermine public confidence in their ability to address the issue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Youth unemployment is a ticking time bomb,&#8221; says <em>Jean-Pierre Tr\u00e9hin<\/em>, CEO of the International Youth Foundation. &#8220;If we don&#8217;t tackle this issue head-on, we risk creating a lost generation of young people who are disconnected from society and lack opportunities for social mobility.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;When you have high levels of youth unemployment, it&#8217;s not just an economic problem &#8211; it&#8217;s a social and political one too,&#8221; says <em>Anna Roy<\/em>, Senior Policy Analyst at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). &#8220;You need to address the root causes of this issue, which often involve a lack of job opportunities, inadequate education and training, and limited social mobility.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As the world struggles to come to terms with the disappearance of youth unemployment data, one thing is clear &#8211; we cannot afford to ignore this issue any longer.
