Launched in 2003 by the Ministry of Public Security, the Golden Shield aimed to strengthen internet censorship and surveillance capabilities.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Improved Censorship Capabilities:<\/strong> The Golden Shield allowed China to more effectively block access to certain websites, blogs, and online platforms deemed subversive or sensitive.
